What Is a Level 4 Qualification?

Level 4 sits alongside the first year of a university degree or an HNC on the UK qualifications framework. In aesthetics, it is the level where you move beyond following a treatment routine into advanced skin and laser work: understanding skin science, assessing each client properly, planning treatments and managing risks.

It is also the level many insurers and clients look for before you offer treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels and laser hair removal. As an approved Focus Awards centre (RFC8853), our Level 4 qualifications are regulated, not just a certificate of attendance.

Who Level 4 is for

Beauty therapists with a Level 3 qualification, nurses and other medical professionals moving into aesthetics, and practitioners who have done short CPD courses and now want a recognised qualification behind them.

Treatments you can offer

Our Level 4 courses cover microneedling and chemical peels, laser hair removal and semi-permanent makeup (micropigmentation). All three are popular, repeat-booking treatments that add real value to a clinic or salon.

Entry requirements

Requirements depend on the course. For needle-based training such as microneedling, you will need a Level 3 beauty qualification or above, or at least six months of previous needling experience. Our laser hair removal and micropigmentation courses are open to medical and non-medical learners, subject to the qualification requirements.

How long it takes

Our microneedling and laser hair removal courses involve two days of practical training, with theory to complete beforehand. The Micropigmentation Bundle runs over five days because it covers several treatments.

Where Level 4 leads

Level 4 is the stepping stone to Level 5, including advanced microneedling and chemical peels.

Website and marketing support

Our students get 20% off a website from our partner Design with Bloom, plus marketing support, so you can start taking bookings sooner.

Not sure which course is right for you?

Answer a few quick questions and we will point you to the right pathway.

Is a Level 4 aesthetics qualification recognised?

Yes. A regulated Level 4 qualification, awarded through an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation and delivered by an approved centre, is recognised across the UK. Always check which awarding body sits behind a course before you book.

Do I need a Level 3 before a Level 4?

For needle-based Level 4 courses such as microneedling, yes, or six months of needling experience. Other Level 4 courses, including laser hair removal, are open to a wider range of learners. Each course page lists its own requirements.

Can non-medics do a Level 4 aesthetics course?

Yes. Our Level 4 courses are open to non-medical learners who meet the entry requirements, and many of our students come from beauty rather than medical backgrounds. See our non-medical pathways.

Can I get insured with a Level 4 qualification?

Most specialist aesthetics insurers will cover the treatments included in your Level 4 qualification. Speak to your insurer before you book so you know exactly what they need to see.

Why do some Level 4 courses cost less?

Cheaper courses often mean less practical time, larger groups, budget equipment or an unregulated certificate. Our training takes place in a working clinic on professional, clinic-grade devices, led by Jazz Kaur, a Level 7 practitioner with more than 15 years in the industry.

Where can I do a Level 4 aesthetics course in Devon?

Jazz Beauty Academy is in Torquay town centre and trains students from across Devon and the South West, including Exeter, Plymouth and Newton Abbot.
